![]() ![]() Samsung Omnia i900 5MP: PhP30,800 The Samsung Omnia i900 is the latest Windows Mobile smartphone from Samsung and is touted to be its answer to the HTC Touch Diamond and Apple iPhone 3G. It has great features, looks cool and sexy and is a worthy contender to become the king of smartphones. It is packed with features like a 5 MP camera, 8 GB / 16 GB internal memory, Multi Touch, 3G, A-GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional etc. In this comprehensive and detailed review we try to cover all of its features, its strengths and shortcomings and whether it does manage to defeat the iPhone 3G and HTC Touch Diamond. Samsung Omnia i900 Specifications
Other Features: FM Radio with RDS, Geotagging, Built in Accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, 3.5 mm audio jack, TouchWiz UI, Optical Joystick. Design & DisplayAt 112 x 56.9 x 12.5 mm, the Samsung Omnia i900 is more on the bulkier side. It weighs about 127 gms which isnt very heavy, considering the features it packs in that relatively small body. Its design is strikingly similar to the LG Viewty KU990. It sports a very clean design with completely smooth surfaces and a brushed finish at the back. The front of the phone sports the big display, the earpiece, a secondary VGA camera for video calls and an ambient light sensor. It also has the Call and End keys at the bottom with the Optical Joystick. The left side is pretty empty with just the USB 2.0 port. On the right are the volume rocker, camera key and a key that launches the Menu. On the bottom is the mouthpiece while the top houses the Power key and a reset hole. The back of the phone sports a brushed metallic finish and has the 5 MP Camera and the LED flash. All in all, The Samsung Omnia i900 is a sturdy phone with good build quality and a simple design. It should easily withstand a drop or two. It has a huge 3.2″ display supporting resolutions of 240 x 400 px and 65K colors which is second in size only to the Apple iPhone 3G. However the resolution is quite odd and does cause some incompatibility problems with some applications and games. It is great for watching widescreen videos though.Operating System & Interface FeaturesThe Samsung Omnia i900 is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. It has a new custom made user Interface by Samsung called the TouchWiz which seems to be slightly inspired by HTC’s TouchFLO 3D. The display is Touch enabled and doesnt have a stylus slot. It has very few keys - The Optical Joystick, Call, End, Menu and Camera keys. They Optical Joystick can be used in two modes - as a normal touchpad and to navigate using a virtual mouse pointer. The mouse pointer is a refreshingly new concept and is fun to use and navigate around the phone. The Omnia i900’s display automatically rotates using the Accelerometer when tilted sideways. The screen is nice and sensitive and it has nice animated transitions. It also introduces haptic feedback when you press keys by vibrating for a very small period. The new TouchWiz UI is good to use and is very fast and responsive, thanks to the 624 MHZ Marvell PXA312 CPU underneath its hood. The OS is fast and very rarely do you feel any lag. It has 128 MB ram which is enough for most applications and aids in multi tasking. It performs slightly better than the HTC Touch Diamond in most cases. However the TouchWiz UI is not as polished as the TouchFLO 3D. The Omnia i900 comes with 4 GB / 8GB internal flash memory which can be expanded by 8 GB using a Micro SD slot. The Omnia’s Touch Wiz UI also supports widgets like Notes, Explorer, Radio, Calendar and Clock. It has 3 different home screens. Underneath the flashy new UI and homescreens the good old and powerful Windows Mobile 6.1. It supports the huge library of Windows Mobile applications and games which propels it way ahead of the iPhone 3G. It comes with a touch optimized version of Opera Mobile 9.5 powered by the Presto engine which is way better than the default Internet Explorer. It offers a fantastic, fullscreen browsing experience with browser controls available at a tap. There is absolutely no lag in page rendering and zooming. The browser switches to landscape mode automatically when held horizontally. It is very similar to Mobile Safari and even betters it in some aspects. The browser supports FlashLite 2.1. The Omnia i900 comes with the full Office suite - Word, Excel and Powerpoint. there is also an application to view PDF files. It also comes with the regular Phonebook, Organiser and ToDo list apps. MultimediaThe Samsung Omnia i900 is a complete beast when it comes to multimedia performance. It has a 5 MP cam which is fully loaded with autofocus, face recognition, smile detection, a digital image stabilizer and supports a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. It also supports GeoTagging and has a LED flash. The camera is top notch - a first on Windows Mobile smartphones and supports a plethora of advanced settings - self-timer, white balance, color effect, ISO settings and various modes including the smile detection mode. It produces crisp and natural images with accurate color reproduction. It records VGA video (640 x 480) at 15fps and QVGA video (320 x 240) at 30fps. It sports a new camera interface which is quite nice. The Omnia i900 features the all new Samsung Omnia Media Album and the Samsung Touch Player for image viewing and audio / video playback respectively. It has awesome sound quality which matches that of the iPhone 3G. It has low distortion levels and a good frequency response and dynamic range. It is undoubtedly the best PMP in the Windows Mobile range. It supports DivX playback out of the box and is ideal for playing widescreen video. It supports almost all video formats due to the availability of many 3rd party applications to play video content. It also has an FM Radio with RDS support and a cool new touch optimized interface to go with it. ConnectivityThe Samsung Omnia i900 is a quad band phone supporting a wide range of connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA 7.2 MBPS, WLAN 802.11 b/g, USB v2.0. It also comes with an A-GPS receiver with Google Maps bundled and can easily double up as a hand held standalone navigation unit. Phone PerformanceThe Omnia i900 has good reception quality and performs decently well even in low network areas. Pros
Final ConclusionsThe Samsung Omnia i900 is a great phone which is fully packed with features. It is the best Windows Mobile phone in terms of multimedia capabilities. It is a strong competitor and is better than the iPhone 3G and HTC Touch Diamond in some respects but also loses in some. The list of Pros far outweigh the Cons. It is definitely a great buy despite all its shortcomings. Our Rating: 4/5 Package content

The Nokia E66 builds on the successful Nokia E65. The E66 is functionally identical to Nokia E71, which we covered in more detail. It's powered by the same 369MHz processor and has the same amount of RAM: 128MB, of which 71MB are available to the user. So again, the E66 is one nippy smartphone, which handles admirably. Nokia E66 at a glance:
The Nokia E66 comes in a different form factor as compared to the E71, but retains all the signature fineries of the E-series. The excellent design, metallic body and rich feature load make it a sound alternative of the E71 and still those two won't be running against each other - they are simply targeted at consumer groups with different needs. Nokia E66 has only one feature over the Nokia E71 and that's the built-in accelerometer. It's actually not that much of an advantage - it's more like compensation for the fact that the E66 portrait oriented display is not as good as the E71 one in web browsing, image browsing or reading Office documents. The accelerometer is used for automatic change of the screen orientation as well as silencing an incoming call by simply turning it face down. Softwarewise, the Nokia E66 has the same advantages and drawbacks as the E71 - it's limited to the S60 Feature Pack 1 for some unknown reason but features a number of innovations such as the easy email setup, the Mode Switcher, the enhanced Calendar and the improved web browser.

The announcement of Samsung G810 must have had many a geek's heart skip a few beats. The handset has all but the kitchen sink and there's Symbian under the hood. Now, we just had to test it, right? So, get your pulse back to normal and stay with us as we check if the Samsung G810 has the performance to back up those marvelous specs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Key features
Final wordsTo begin with, it is quite obvious that Samsung are a bit late releasing the G810. It has been six months since Nokia N95 8GB hit the shelves and the N82 has been around for about five. It's quite likely that most geeks that are after a loaded handset have already sealed a deal. Another problem with the Samsung G810 is that its estimated retail price of 560 euro is by a good 110 euro more than what you would pay for a Nokia N95 8GB. We somehow cannot see how it deserves that extra pocket digging. On the other hand, Samsung G810 has a unique optical zoom feature and is probably the sleekest looking among them all-but-the-kitchen-sink devices out there. It has the performance and snappy user interface, which is probably what's most important in such a phone. If it wasn't for the awkward keypad, we would totally call it better than its market rivals. With this issue in mind though, we'll refrain from such a statement. There is however nothing to stop us from admitting that we did like the handset. So if value-for-money is not high on your agenda, Samsung G810 is definitely a tempting offer. SOURCE: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_g810-review-231.php
(MALL PRICE: PhP27,000) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To pick up where we left, prepare to meet the next bestseller by Samsung. If you think Samsung F480 is not up to such a challenge you might want to think again. The compact touch-operated handset has every chance of becoming the next best thing since sliced bread. It is extremely pocket-friendly but its own pocket is bulging - so to say - the little fella has it all. Plus, the looks are fantastic, so only one important question remains - is the performance on par with the marvelous specs. Luckily we are just about to answer that question, so sit back and enjoy. FOR VIDEO REVIEW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QVTB3NbTy0 Key features
Final wordsIt's not too often that we are so impressed with a handset as we are with Samsung F480. The little fella is an extremely capable device carrying a serious feature pack. In addition, it is so suave and compact that it is bound to earn itself quite a lot of fans. User-friendliness is also among its definite strong points. Some users might miss the Armani logo for the frill of it but we for one won't really grieve over it. 5 megapixel camera, 2.8" touchscreen display and HSDPA ring the right bells in the tech-freaks' minds. Those are however hardly the people to go for Samsung F480. After all, there are still one or two absences in its specs sheet. Instead, the F480 is targeted at people that want a good all-round device, which won't tear a whole in their pocket. With the camera white balance fixed in the retail version, which seems imminent, Samsung F480 will also be a tempting purchase for the cameraphone lovers. Finally, the people who see handsets as web-browsing devices should also have a look at Samsung F480 before buying their next phone. HSDPA combined with the great web browser make web-browsing a great experience and, if it wasn't for the missing Wi-Fi, it would probably be in the top three handsets in this respect. Nokia E71 with Nokia Warranty (2GB): PhP21,500 At a London live, Nokia presented the long-awaited E-series newcomers - Nokia E66 and Nokia E71. The two handsets are Nokia craftsmanship at its highest and high-tech goodies galore: auto focus cameras, Wi-Fi, GPS and the power of the latest Symbian S60 UI. The Nokia E71 packs a full hardware QWERTY keypad and its design feels somewhat Blackberry-esque although it's actually a successor of the Nokia E61i. Nokia E71 brings much more style to the E-series with a girth of mere 10mm. It's impressively compact for its form factor but that in turn has shrinked the display to 2.36 inches (as opposed to the impressive 2.8" screen of E61i). Hardwarewise, the E71 offers the latest in smartphone with a built-in GPS receiver, which works with Nokia Maps, 3 megapixel auto focus camera capable of shooting VGA video at 22 fps (which is actually usable) and - of course - HSDPA and Wi-Fi. There is also the microSD card slot to expand the available 110MB memory with up to 8GB worth of additional storage. The Nokia E66 is the same business-grade device as the Nokia E71, without the QWERTY keyboard. It's more compact but screen real estate is not sacrificed at all - the Nokia E66 has a 2.4" QVGA TFT display. Since it also sports a built-in accelerometer, you can also enjoy screen auto rotation, as well as silencing of incoming calls when the device is facing down. Other than that, the specs remain identical, making it an equaly sweet gadget.
![]() Sony Ericsson W760i: PhP17,300 Sony Ericsson W760. Yes, it's another Walkman phone, but this time, Sony Ericsson have done what they've previously been reluctant to do...they've added a built-in GPS unit to it and combined it with Google Maps, making the W760 a serious competitor to the Nokia N95 (albeit a year late!) Sony Ericsson W760i featuresSo, other than an MP3 player and GPS, what else does the W760i offer? Well, here are just some of its features:
In other words, everything you'd expect from a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, with the addition of GPS and HSDPA. It's still some way short of the Nokia N95, though, so Sony Ericsson are still lagging behind the front runners in the technology stakes, but it still seems like an impressive enough phone, while leaving the door open for the company to release an even more technologically-advanced phone later in the year.
